I’m in love with this picture.
Thank you, Emily Gilbert, for being willing to squeeze us in as you’re 9 months pregnant (and had your baby two days later – welcome little E! Congratulations!).
I’ve had another one of my tantrums where I’m disgusted by all the noise and nonsense that has been consuming too much of my time and energy. So I’ve quit social media for the summer (facebook, insta, personal and peckled – all of it) and I decided to not sign Elsie up for all the camps, activities, etc that I was planning to. We joined the local pool – which is kind of huge for us because we’re kind of anti-social homebodies. We’re just going to let summer roll. Zero expectations, no plans, no big projects. Simple Summer.
Whenever things start to overwhelm, I’ve gotten pretty good at reigning it in, editing, and simplifying. This skill – and it is a skill – has taken a while to hone, but, man, it feels really good. I had a massive shed sale, goodwilled an insane amount of stuff from my house, did a major edit on my closet… and I’m still trucking.
So when I planned Josie’s 1 year pics – taken at 14 months because I’m still me and not-on-time is a lifestyle issue – I skipped all the stress, picked one simple outfit for each of us, whipped up a few floral crowns, grabbed a blanket and met Emily at a local park. (After typing all that it doesn’t really sound simple, but I guess compared to past sessions – it was! Trust me!)
Side Story – We were supposed to do them at my house in the big beautiful rolling golden wheat field but WOULDN’T YA KNOW, they cut the field the day of our pictures. Sob face. This stung even harder because we were actually supposed to take pics three days prior but got rained out… or thought we would be, judging by the 90% chance forecast… then it never rained. So yeah. But I’m not even sweating it because I love how they turned out.
